![]() ![]() ![]() As one of the head doctors working in a hectic emergency room alongside such heavy hitters as Noah Wyle and George Clooney, Edwards as Greene exemplified the qualities of a true leader, and established himself as one of television's most compelling and enduring character actors. Mark Greene - on the long-running medical drama series "ER" (NBC, 1994-2009). ![]() Though some wrote him off as simply the goofball sidekick, Edwards proved the doubters wrong years later when he took a more serious turn and landed his most accomplished role - that of Dr. After he ingratiated himself as one of Hollywood's loveable, go-to geeks in films such as the classic teen comedy "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (1982), "Revenge of the Nerds" (1984), and "The Sure Thing" (1985), his innate comic flair and endearing presence managed to steal every scene from Tom Cruise in the blockbuster hit "Top Gun" (1986), where Edwards portrayed the easygoing yet ill-fated fighter jet pilot, Goose. Hal Hinson of The Washington Post called the film racist for picturing "the inner city as an all-black criminal hell-town where the men who walk the streets are much less human than the people in the all-white suburbs." David Nusair of Reel Films called it "elentlessly bland and hopelessly unfunny.Whether he was playing a physician with perfect bedside manners, a goofy college nerd, or a charming naval aviator, Anthony Edwards always delivered performances that were full of wit, warmth and genuine emotion that even the most jaded viewer could not resist. The film received mostly negative reviews. Diamond Street is within this area, but Philadelphia police districts are numbered, not named for streets or neighborhoods. Later portions of the film are in the Fairhill and Norris Square neighborhoods which are now known as "The Badlands" circa 2000. The scene where Anthony Edwards pretends to pull over Penelope Ann Miller is filmed on Yale Street, in Claremont, CA. There are a few early scenes that are filmed in and around Los Angeles. This is in the Mount Airy and Chestnut Hill neighborhoods. The beginning of the film features Cresheim Valley Road, Stenton, and Germantown Avenues. As punishment, he is assigned to work Downtown, considered the most dangerous, high-crime precinct in the city. Police Officer Alex Kearney is a patrolman in Bryn Mawr, an affluent, plush suburb of Philadelphia-until he stops an important businessman and his account of the incident is not believed.
